Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis |
Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis has transformed from small town teacher to hero and spreader of hope. Roig-DeBellis was reading to her class at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut when she heard gunshots. Thinking quickly, she flicked off all the lights, and ushered her class into their small bathroom. There they waited, while gunfire raged on the other side of the wall.
Forty-five minutes later, she and her students were found by police officers. The tragedy that took place remains as one of the most devastating school shootings in US History.
Roig-DeBellis was determined to move forward, and find a source of light from such a dark experience. She saw a rare opportunity to teach her students about kindness. She founded Classes 4 Classes, an organization devoted to paying forward kindness.
Roig-DeBellis continues to spread her message of hope and inspiration with her new book, Choosing Hope: Moving Forward from Life’s Darkest Hours, published by Penguin and released October 6th.
“I believe in the power of kindness, the influence of educators and mentors, faith and God, and most of all I believe in humanity.” -Kaitlin Roig-DeBellis
Her book tour kicked off in Decatur, Georgia, and will take Kaitlin across the United States throughout October. US dates and locations can be found here. She will then travel to Australia and New Zealand throughout November for a second leg of the tour.
