Barry Krauss was born March 17, 1957, and was raised in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Football is the thread which continues to weave its way through Barry‘s life. He has had the privilege of playing for three of the most successful coaches in the game, Paul Bryant, Don Shula and Ted Marchibroda.
Barry Krauss was a two-time, All American honoree at the University of Alabama, where he studied to be a teacher. He played linebacker from 1975-78 where he was the team captain under the leadership of coach Bryant. Barry Krauss gained national prominence through his part of the famed “Goal Line Stand,” a fourth and goal play against Penn State, which led to Bama winning the 79 national championship. While a member of the Crimson Tide, he was named MVP of both the Sugar Bowl and the Liberty Bowl, the only college player in history to win both awards.
Barry‘s 13-year pro football career places him in an elite group in the NFL, a league where the average tenure is under four years. As the Colts’ #1 draft pick in 1979 and team captain, he was an integral part of the defense, racking up over 1000 career tackles. Barry Krauss enjoys being a member of the 1987 AFC Eastern Division championship team. Krauss finished playing professional football after the 1991 season with the Miami Dolphins. Barry Krauss was honored by his teammates at both the Colts and the Dolphins by being picked the Most Valuable Defensive Player.
Today, Barry Krauss is highly involved in football as an analyst for games on TV and radio. From the pros to high school, Krauss covers the game with the same admiration for performance on the field no matter what level of play. He is also a regular on pre-game and post-game shows each year.
Barry Krauss continues to work with area charities, a practice which he began as a spokesperson for United Way during his days with the Indianapolis Colts. Barry and his wife, Darcy, live in Carmel, Indiana. He is the proud father of four: Ashley, Charlsie, Savannah and Karsten.
