Dave Asheim is a veteran of up-and-coming technology and software providers with 11 years’ mobile technology experience from the pre-Blackberry, pre-Internet days. Dave Asheim is widely regarded as an industry expert in the use of mobile solutions for immediate connectivity and interaction between organizations and their target audiences.
While attending the University of Illinois to earn his Bachelor’s of Science in Finance, Dave Asheim ran Red Rose Products, a million-dollar mail order company and his first business venture. After completing his B.S. and MBA degrees, he became one of the youngest Vice Presidents at Continental Bank, America’s largest commercial bank at the time.
In 1994, on the cusp of the Internet boom, Dave Asheim moved to Silicon Valley where his longstanding passion for using efficient technology as an engagement, interaction and commercial tool would begin. While living in San Francisco and working as CFO of Flex Products, he soon realized that the quickly developing Internet would be a game-changer, and made a conscious effort to join a company that operated on the cutting edge of this burgeoning industry.
From 1997-2000, Dave Asheim was President of Well Engaged, the largest B2B software provider of web-based chat and discussion software and the pioneers of pre-Google/Facebook social media and social networking. With high-profile clients including Edmonds, CBS Sports Line, Adobe and eTrade, Well Engaged was the centerpiece of the Internet and Silicon Valley in the late 90s.
In 2000, Dave Asheim began work with iHello Inc., a Mountain View, CA based, venture capital-backed software startup that allowed sales teams to interact with their desktop computers via their cell phones – in the absence of real-time remote connectivity, laptop computers or Blackberry devices.
As he witnessed the productivity and efficiency of mobile – for both the end user and for corporations and organizations – as well as its rapid growth and integration into everyday life, Dave Asheim decided to start a new business connecting organizations with consumers via mobile devices.
Dave Asheim founded Guide by Cell in 2004 with the initial goal of bridging the gap between cultural institutions and their patrons with cell phone-based audio tours. The company is a recognized market leader in mobile technology for cultural organizations and nonprofits, with clients ranging from art museums and universities to performing arts centers and national parks.
Over the next several years Dave Asheim launched sister divisions Train by Cell, a content and information-sharing platform for corporations; Give by Cell, a mobile giving service provider for nonprofit organizations; and Win by Cell, a mobile campaign fundraising division which earned the award in 2010 for Best New Technology at the National Political Campaign Convention.
As current President and Founder of Guide by Cell, Dave Asheim speaks at national and regional conferences every year and has presented at a variety of renowned organizations in the cultural space including the Freer and Sackler Galleries, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
Dave Asheim brings a vast knowledge of and passion for mobile technology to the Guide by Cell team, which includes engineers in Shanghai and San Francisco who create innovative software solutions that build upon all the latest mobile developments, and test these products in real-life situations.
As the cost of mobile devices decreases and social acceptance skyrockets, client interest level has developed from cell phone audio tours and SMS campaigns to robust mobile websites and Smartphone applications. Dave Asheim and his team have actively worked to refine the Guide by Cell technology platform over the years and consistently seek to identify new technologies in both the short and long-term, from augmented reality to near field communication and mobile commerce opportunities.
