Sean Wybrant

Sean Wybrant currently crafts tomorrow’s heroes in his classroom by teaching students to critically think and solve problems through computer science and video game development.

From 2012 to 2017 Sean worked to create a fully functional game development studio in a traditional public high school. Students in his programs create augmented and virtual reality simulations, explore live-action motion capture, and are immersed in a variety of other technologies. Projects his students have worked on include an augmented reality Periodic Table of the Elements, a mixed reality game to teach students about light, virtual reality art museums, virtual reality escape rooms, and 2D apps/games. These projects led to Sean’s selection as the 2017 Colorado Teacher of the Year, his selection as one of the National School Board Association’s “20 to Watch” award, his selection as a finalist in the school leader category for the EdTech Digest awards, and his representation on the Colorado Education Commissioner’s Teacher Cabinet.

In his first seven years in the classroom, Sean facilitated the application of English and language arts competencies with a service learning approach. Sean earned a position as a Lead Educator in his district’s Next Generation Learning work where he helped draft the Colorado Springs School District 11 vision.

Sean has given many keynote presentations on the need to teach courage in the classroom, the importance of educators sharing their stories, changing the narrative of education, and the importance of innovation in our schools. Sean has also led numerous professional development sessions around Next Generation Learning strategies, technology use in the classroom, personalized learning, service learning, the importance of computer science education as an equity issue, and networking over his career. He has presented at the International Society for Technology in Education annual convention, Colorado Education Initiative Showcase, and Denver Comic Con among other notable events.

Sean believes that teachers have the most awesome responsibility in our society, that of crafting the heroes of the future.
