Susie Coelho

Susie Coelho is the embodiment of inspiration and motivation. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that knows the tenacity, determination and passion of this beloved Renaissance woman, who graced our living rooms and backyards every week for over a decade as the host of two HGTV series “Surprise Gardener” and “Outer Spaces.”

Never one to rest on her laurels, Susie continued to expand her television audience as a contributor to the “Today” show, “Oprah” and “The View,” where she inspired viewers to create harmony and beauty in their own personal taste and style.

In 1997 her thirst for creativity prompted this visionary to create her own lifestyle company and brand. Since its inception, Susie Coelho Enterprises has blossomed into one of the most respected lifestyle enterprises in the country, with over $90 million in licensed product at retail through partnerships with Mervyns, QVC, Grandin Road and Calyx & Corolla amongst others. SCE’s expansion continued across multi-media with successful divisions in publishing, personal appearances, and endorsements. Coelho’s partnerships with numerous Fortune 500 companies and household name brands include eBay, Visa, Betty Crocker, Bank of America, Glade, Windex, Maxwell House, Glade and Kahlua.

In the publishing world, Susie made her mark, as a best-selling author, with four books to her name: Style Your Dream Wedding (2008); Secrets of a Style Diva: A Get-Inspired Guide to Your Creative Side (2006); Styling for Entertaining: 8 Simple Steps, 8 Miracle Makeovers (2004); and Everyday Styling (2002) Simon & Schuster.

For most of us, those accomplishments would be the crowning achievements of a rich and varied life; but not for Susie Coelho. This past year her no-nonsense approach to business made her a favorite on networks such as CNN, ABC News, and Fox Business, where she frequently went head-to-head with guests such as former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino. In 2010 she became a ‘Cavuto All Star’ a member of Neil Cavuto’s prestigious panel, covering news of the day and how these issues relate to small businesses, entrepreneurs and homeowners across America. “There is nothing more exhilarating to me than helping women and entrepreneurs realize their dreams. Every day, entrepreneurs create something out of nothing-starting with only an intangible idea” says Coelho. “Entrepreneurs are risk takers and there is a great excitement to the magic of creation.”

As a dynamic and forward-thinking entrepreneur, Susie is pursued on the speaking circuit for her motivational and inspirational messages of personal empowerment and business excellence. In 2007, she was honored with the prestigious Women in Film & Video, ‘Vision Award’, for her accomplishments and contributions to the media and for the encouragement and inspiration she has given women across the country.

Born of East Indian and Portuguese heritage and raised in London, Paris and Washington D.C., Susie Coelho first came to the public’s attention as a successful Ford model in New York, followed by highly public careers in film and television and as an investigative journalist. Her early entrepreneurial ventures were as a restaurateur (with then-husband Sonny Bono) and subsequently a clothing boutique on Melrose Avenue, called ‘A Star is Worn’, which sold celebrity collectibles.

A single working mother with a 20 year old son and an 11 year old daughter, this pioneering trendsetter has always been at the forefront in championing women’s issues and instrumental in the continued advancement of women in business; encouraging, motivating and inspiring women at all levels of the business spectrum to discover their innate abilities and reach their full potential.

“It’s very rewarding to tap into someone’s innate talents and show them how they can use those gifts for success in business and life” says Coelho. “Many women feel they have no resources or skills, even though I find this is rarely the case. More important than the skill set is the burning desire, passion and vision, that one has – everything else will follow!”
