
Bob Ryan is a retired columnist for the Globe’s Sports section whose work appears in the section semi-regularly. He has been writing for the Globe since 1968, covering all of Boston’s sports teams. Ryan is a regular panelist on ESPN’s Sunday morning roundtable, “The Sports Reporters,” as well as their program, “Around the Horn.” He is also a frequent guest on ESPN radio and on WROR-FM’s “Loren and Wally Show.”
Bob Ryan is the winner of several awards including: National Sportswriter of the Year in 2000, 2007, 2008, and 2009, and the Massachusetts Sportswriter of the Year in 1997, 2001, 2006, and 2010, both given by the National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters. Ryan is the 1997 winner of the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame and the 2006 winner of the Dick Schaap Award for distinguished service to journalism.
Bob Ryan was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of fame in 2011.
In 2015 Bob Ryan’s memoir “Scribe” was honored as the grand prize winner of the 2014 New England Book Festival.
